Employees in the care sector are absent from work almost twice as often as in other occupational groups. The reason: mental illness in connection with burnout. This is shown by a recent study of the AOK's work incapacity data.
The health insurance company's absenteeism report reveals a steady increase in burnout-related absences in the care sector over the past few years. Last year, nurses diagnosed with burnout were absent for an average of 28.2 days, setting a new record for the absence rate. Employees in other professions remain far below this rate with 14.2 days lost per 100 AOK members. The high risk of burnout in the care sector is independent of age and gender, but even taking into account the specific age and gender structure of employees in the care sector, the average number of days lost is still 27 percent higher than in other professions.

Relief is urgently needed
In recent years, the demands placed on carers have become significantly more complex, as increasing life expectancy means that more people are dependent on versatile and care-intensive nursing. At the same time, fewer and fewer people are opting for this demanding profession. The resulting high work density, which leads to additional workloads and great pressure for carers, is leading to a steadily increasing burnout rate. According to the health insurance company, there is a more urgent need than ever to improve work structures, create freedom for employees and increase their freedom of action in order to provide relief and balance for carers.
voize creates more time with the residents
The voize voice assistant supports care staff in their day-to-day work. As the cell phone is always to hand in the pocket, care documentation can be spoken directly to the resident. To ensure that the voize app really provides support exactly where it is needed, it was developed together with carers from the outset and adapted to their needs. With the help of AI, the voice assistant is constantly expanding its care vocabulary, understands dialects and accents and corrects typing errors. With the voice assistant accompanying them on a daily basis, nursing staff save the time it takes to enter information into the documentation system on the ward computer. Instead, they always have an overview of all data, such as vital signs and wound documentation. This ensures safety and peace of mind and, above all, time. With the voize app, we want to enable nursing staff to have contact and sufficient time with residents, which is crucial for a satisfactory working day and a healthy working atmosphere.
