Out of the lecture hall and into practice, and then with an idea that supports nursing? Science Minister Manja Schüle wanted to know what was behind it. At a meeting at the St. Franziskus senior citizens' nursing home of the Alexians, voize, together with experts from the nursing practice, presented how documentation by voice input relieves the burden.

"You may be wondering why I am here as Science Minister and not the Economics or Health Minister," said Manja Schüle at the opening of the meeting. The fact that science is more than just a theoretical ivory tower was demonstrated by companies such as voize, whose ideas are based on science and focus on people.

But does it actually work that way in practice? In a five-week pilot phase, the nursing staff at the St. Franziskus nursing home for the elderly tested voize. It takes a while to get used to it, and speaking in is particularly unfamiliar at first, explains nursing assistant Marina Wichmann. She and her colleagues already noticed during the pilot phase that voize makes documentation less time-consuming and leaves them a little more time each day.

Language-based documentation creates time for residents

Caritas Stuttgart has been working with voize for two years and has even measured the added value: The nursing staff spent two hours a day on documentation before the voice app was introduced, reports nurse Filomena Nigro. By speaking directly into the app, the documentation effort has shrunk to around half an hour a day.

And what do care staff do with more time? Marina Wichmann's answer comes promptly: "Well, the things that are otherwise unfortunately neglected: sitting down with the residents, going outside with them, spending time with them. The app is now to be introduced in other Alexian facilities. The provider's aim is to create conditions in which care staff enjoy working. Curiosity about everything that leaves the familiar path is an important companion, says St. Franziskus Managing Director Britta Schmidt.

Innovation improves working conditions in the care sector

Innovative ideas are needed for the care sector, as skilled workers are not available indefinitely and are exposed to great physical and mental stress every day in this demanding profession. To support care workers using artificial intelligence, we would like to use voize to create such an approach to care that creates better conditions for carers and residents. In addition, however, the care sector also needs support from politicians, for example to create a framework for the digitalization of care. We are therefore delighted to have the opportunity to talk to Minister Manja Schüle.

In a few days' time, the Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Award will be presented, and voize is one of two Brandenburg companies nominated. "Both companies are rightly nominated for the Innovation Award, both stand for the development of innovative and sustainable solutions in a special way - and thus for the future, 'Made in Brandenburg'. From now on, it's fingers crossed for both of them!" said Minister Manja Schüle.
